Nature Tours to Africa

Worldwide Birding Tours started its Overseas Tour Programme in 2006 with birding tours to Morocco. Although Morocco is still a very popular destination for many birders, we have added so many more destinations to our portfolio. Of course the African Continent has so much more to offer and nowadays we have extended our programme to include such mouth watering natural wonders as Kenya, Gambia and we have more tour destinations to come! For example, below you can read all about our new birding and wildlife tour to Botswana, this tour is certainly something very special, taking in such important areas as the Okavanga Delta and the Central Kalahari.

And so from the open savannahs through to the Great Rift Valley, from the famous annual wetlands of the Okavanga Delta to the gentle pace of river rides on the River Gambia, we head north to the Sahara Desert and so we hope to provide you with  many different opportunities to enjoy and experience real Africa!

Morocco – The ultimate safaris

We have been to and written about Morocco so many times and yet it never fails to leave us with impressions of wonder, not least of vast empty tranquil spaces where it is possible to be completely immersed in nature. It is a country not far from Europe but is so totally different in both culture and wildlife. From the high towering mountains of the High Atlas, to the soft and rolling dunes of the Sahara Desert, it presents a picture of unimaginable beauty. The birdlife is special and with the country acting as a bridge for migratory birds passing from Africa to Europe, we can witness incredible falls of migrant birds. We have our own special areas where we can see good numbers of very difficult species such as Desert Sparrow, Fulvous Babbler, Brown-necked Raven and many other specialist birds. With several options to visit Morocco available with us, why not join us on safari and witness firsthand why it is such a special destination?

Why go? The answer is that when man has been there and undergone the baptism of solitude he can’t help himself.

Botswana – Africa’s most beautiful Wilderness

We have now, finally, designed our first tour to Botswana – Africa’s most beautiful Wilderness. Its such an exciting tour, we will visit the Central Kalahari, going through the Okavango Delta and ending up at the Victoria Falls. For wildlife, Botswana is one the very best areas in Africa and also the birding is magnificent. To get the best out of this birding and wildlife Safari, we have chosen a “luxury (mobile) camping safari”. Its great fun with our camp being taken down and put up by our staff, at a different location, every second or third day. Our travels will be by open game drive vehicles and for longer distances by chartered small aeroplanes. We are so looking forward to this safari and feel sure that it will be an exciting experience for everyone who accompanies us.

Only a few places are available, so why not join us?

Kenya – A lifetime experience

This 11 nights/12 days tour is the flagship of our African Safaris. The country’s dramatically diverse geography has resulted in an enormous range of natural habitats, making Kenya one of the natural wonders of the world. It is a land of endless potential for the wildlife enthusiast. From great migratory herds of the open savannah to an incredible abundance of birdlife, from the depths of a tropical rainforest to the depths of the Indian Ocean teeming with fish, Kenya is a treasure trove of natural wonders. It holds some of the most remarkable birding sights to be seen anywhere! Come with us and you  will bear witness to an array of unbelievable spectacles. You can find the world’s biggest bird, the Ostrich, but we will also see spectacular numbers of flamingo congregating in their millions at the various Lakes of the Great Rift Valley, painting them and the landscape pink. With eleven percent of the world’s species – some 1089 different varieties, Kenya’s birding is one of the best in the world. It is an exciting and must-do tour, it will provide marvellous opportunities and many treasured memories.

South Africa – Maximum Diversity

South Africa is a great destination for birding and the presence of big and small mammals, which can be easily found visiting one of the many National Parks or Game reserves, makes this country one of the most pleasant countries to visit. We will find a variety of habitats during our tour; almost treeless grassland, “bushveld” often referred to in South Africa as Savannah and the East Coast Littoral – a moist tropical to sub-tropical mosaic of forest, coastal thicket and grassland, and for those signing up for the extension the Pelagic – open sea up to 200km off-shore. Each of these habitats has its own suite of birds.

The Gambia – Leave the winter behind

The Gambia, for a 10nights/11 days tour, is the perfect place for a winter’s break and is one of the smallest and safest countries in Africa. After only a 6 hours flight, without any time difference, you will arrive at Banjul on the Gambian Coast, which is as colourfully African as you can possibly image. The Gambia enjoys virtually uninterrupted sunshine with almost no rainfall from November to June, which makes this country a very good place to escape the cold and grey winter months in northern Europe. We have created the perfect relaxed holiday with gentle river rides and time to enjoy the beauty of the interior, as well as give our friends time to wile away some time on long sandy beaches, going for a stroll or simply laying back to enjoy the sun and warmth. Birdlife here is abundant and since 1977 a Wildlife Act was passed for several areas in The Gambia, which are now protected Nature Reserves. More than 540 bird species are recorded. The Gambia, the place to enjoy a really relaxed birding holiday with WBT!
